Predicting the number of passenger kilometers by train involves numerous factors. Take the oil price—its sharp increase logically leads to more train passengers. But, how many? Imagine a new station built in five years. How many new passengers will that attract? While the NS possesses various in-house forecasting models, they often operate independently, requiring substantial manual effort for analyzing diverse future predictions.
We developed De Kast. That tool, as the name suggests, has several drawers. In De Kast, various forecast models from other software suppliers come together in their own drawers but in one cupboard. Together, they offer a clear and flexible forecasting system with which the NS can make detailed short- and long-term forecasts. It has now become a household name within the railway company. Because what De Kast says is true, that's the motto.
